ER Students Participate in Math First Tournament
Posted on 06/05/2024
Congratulations to our second grade students - Matthew Paratore, Maxwell Stahl and Daniel Walter on their hard work during the New York Statewide Mathematics Tournament this June.
The competition was held at The State University of New York at Albany. Only 150 children qualified to attend!
Each grade level (1-5) had 10 teams representing them from all over New York, our students competed with 9 other teams of second graders. The students played in three rounds of the Ten Wheels Challenge. Each round was 20 minutes long and more cards were added each round. The students had to work together in their team to create wheels that used number cards to total up to 10.
ER Teacher Julia Blatter shared, "I am so proud of Max, Matt, and Daniel! They undeniably rose to the challenge and worked so well as a team. They practiced hard after school, used many different strategies, and encouraged each other to do their best, all while having fun! Although we didn't make it to the top three, these students are still champions for Rochester and definitely live out East Rochester's saying "Home of the Champions!" It was an unforgettable weekend and I am so happy I got to be there alongside them cheering them on."
In addition to the amazing competition experience, the students also enjoyed having a pool party at the hotel, going out to dinner with their families, and hanging out playing catch and other games in between rounds at the University of Albany.
We are so proud of our ER students and teacher Julia Blatter! Great job everyone!
