Kate Gleason Memorial Pool is Closed

Due to the continued decrease in air quality, the Kate Gleason Memorial Pool will be closed for the remainder of the day, Thursday July 16, 2026.
Wildfire smoke continues to enter our region and has impacted air quality. Today, the air quality index (AQI) for Monroe County reached an air quality measurement of over 200. Levels over 200 are considered “very unhealthy,” indicating that the risk of health effects from exposure are increased for everyone, not just individuals who are sensitive to pollution.
When the air quality measurement measures at 200 (very unhealthy) or more, everyone is advised to cut back on outdoor activities.
People with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens: Avoid all outdoor physical activities.
Everyone else: Avoid strenuous outdoor activities or keep physical activities short. Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them.
People who must spend time outdoors should consider wearing a mask (N95 or KN95 are recommended), take frequent breaks, and adjust work or exercise schedules for when air conditions improve.
Local media will continue to keep the area apprised of local air quality measurements. The District will monitor and reevaluate the AQI early July 17 and reopen if the AQI drops to a safe level.
