East Rochester Union Free School District is celebrating the opening of the new early Pre-K Playground for ages 2-5. The playground is officially available for public use!
The new playground can be accessed through the paved sidewalks. Please be mindful of the grass growing and avoid walking off the sidewalks or other marked pathways. Children must be supervised and no animals are allowed on the playground synthetic surface.
“East Rochester Union Free School District is proud to open phase one of our playground projects with an expanded play area for our students and community members. Each new playground will provide separate age appropriate play equipment with accessibility, disability upgrades and soft play surfaces," said Superintendent Jim Haugh. “Play is such a pivotal part of the school learning environment and we are excited for our elementary students to be able to enjoy our new amenities during our summer programs and for the upcoming school year.”
ER’s new playground equipment was specifically designed for early elementary students. East Rochester Union Free School District’s pre-k teachers and administrative staff collaborated on the playground design based on purposeful and early learning initiatives. The main playset equipment features, include: a tunnel/slide, a shaky bridge, ramp, 3-in-a row, fun climbing features, 3-bay ADA compliant swing set, arch swing complete with saucer-style seating, sensory wave wall (spin chimes, pachinko panel, roller ball), stationary army jeep and two sitting benches. The new playground surface is a blended rubberbond safety surfacing made from recycled materials.
Looking ahead to the summer of 2025, the playground for ages 6-12 will be replaced with new equipment and safety surfacing through ER’s 2025 Capital Improvement Project.
