Urban Suburban students throughout Monroe County were recognized on June 17, during the Urban Suburban Virtual Awards Ceremony. 


The Urban Suburban Awards Ceremony began 11 years ago, as program staff reviewed report cards of students in the program and saw their academic achievements. This year, the virtual ceremony was hosted by alumnus Mr. Carlton Wilcox and Urban Suburban staff members, Mrs. Tawanda Johnson, Ms. Shateela Hill, Mrs. Monique Devries, Mrs. Bonnie Eaton and Mrs. Felicia Smith. The ceremony began with a speech from Monroe One Superintendent Dan White.


Student Awards were presented to 30 East Rochester students enrolled in the Urban Suburban program. To watch the East Rochester ceremony, click here.


Core Four Awards were presented to students with an average grade for three marking periods of 80-89 in all four core subjects: math, science, english and social studies. ER students receiving Core Four Awards include: Jeremy Blanchard, Jeffiah Clark, Michael Daniels, Armonee DeLaPerriere-Moore, Kasey Fernaays, Tiana Gunner, Marlo Henry, Jason Hernandez, Jaiyden Jones, Kelani Langhorne, Janai McCullough, Jacen Mitchell, Mya Samuels, Jamir Thomas, Zachariah Thomas.


Academic Achievement Awards were presented to students with an average grade for three marking periods of 90-94 in all four core subjects. ER students receiving Academic Achievement Awards include: Treasure Chambers, Kiara Coleman, Cheyenne DeLaPerriere-Moore, Daja James, Destiny June, Gabriela Melo, Clinton Robinson, Nia Robinson, Zachaiah Singletary, Caleb Wilcox.


Academic Excellence Awards were presented to students with an average grade for three marking periods of 95 or higher in all four core subjects. ER students receiving Academic Excellence Awards include: Elise Smith, Kayla Blackman, Liat Mekonnen, Marie Mekoyo-Bakou.


Principal Awards were presented to students in any grade level who participate with classmates, teachers and school leaders in an effort to reduce minority group isolation, work to the best of their ability to achieve academic excellence and demonstrate good citizenship. ER MLA/High School Principal Casey van Harssel honored 8th grade student Elise Smith with the Principal Award at the Middle School Level, detailing her dedication to the music programs at ER, as well as the girls volleyball and basketball teams, all while maintaining academic excellence. Dr. van Harssel also honored senior Jalen Paterson with the Principal Award at the High School level, recognizing his positive attitude and his drive in both his academics, extracurricular activities and athletics.
